GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE
2022
From being forced into marriage, to domestic violence, acid attacks, and honor killings, thousands of women in Pakistan face gender-based violence and crimes. However, very rarely are their stories included in the statistics. Abusers are scarcely reported for various reasons, including the fact that spousal rape is not a criminal offense.
The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) is responsible for the decision-making process that influences of the lives of the women in Pakistan. However, not a single woman stands among the board members. Without women's perspectives, legislations related to women's rights will never properly account for the injustices they endure every day.
